Home Improvement Contractors Talk Flooring

Home Improvement Contractors

Flooring is an important (and often overlooked) part of home improvement. People make use of it literally every day but don’t really think about it until they have to get it installed or redone. Luckily, as quality home improvement contractors, we think about flooring a lot and have come up with some great information and helpful tips for when you are considering your flooring options.

Why Is Flooring Important?

Aside from the obvious reason that they allow us to walk on them, many people don’t spend a lot of time thinking about why flooring is important. If you are considering installing or remodeling your floors however, it is essential that you do this. Think about what why you are getting your floors done and how you want it to look. For example, if you have kids, a floor will need to be durable but easy to clean. Or perhaps you are remodeling your home and you simply want it to look stunning then your options might be different. Consult with your contractor to ensure that you are on the same page when it comes to your flooring option choice.

What Flooring Options Are Available?

We mentioned earlier that your options are dependent on your needs. However, here are a few options to get you thinking about what is available:

  • Laminate

Laminate flooring is a multi-layer synthetic flooring product that is designed to simulate wood or stone. It is a very popular choice for modern homes and businesses and there is good reason for this. Laminate is relatively cheap to buy and install, looks good, and is easy to clean.

  • Hardwood

Hardwood is the real deal. It is manufactured from timber and looks absolutely stunning when installed correctly. It comes in variety of stains and colors and may be suitable for homes with no small children or wild pets because it is less resistant to scratches and damage compared to laminate. Hardwood is also a little pricier but if pure aesthetic appeal and class is what you are looking for, then this may be the choice for you.

  • Carpet

Carpet is a classic flooring option used in many homes, hotels, and places of business. Carpet can be aesthetically pleasing although many people find that it is difficult stains easier than other options. This is true but if you are not prone to staining then a good weekly vacuum and an annual deep cleaning is enough to maintain carpet as a viable option.

  • Concrete

You might be thinking that surely concrete is only an option if I have a warehouse or something like that. You would, of course, be partially right. It is indeed a good option for workspaces and garages but concrete (and specifically polished concrete) has also enjoyed a revival as an aesthetically pleasing, durable option available to people.

I’ve Decided What I Want, How Do I Install It?

You don’t! You might think that installing flooring is an easy or fun DIY task but it can actually be very daunting and complex. It is best left up to the experts who will ensure that they source quality products that are installed correctly and safely. Furthermore, because home improvement contractors are work with flooring so often, they may be able to spot things that you didn’t notice. For example, concrete may not be the right flooring option for you because you live with someone who might have a fall.
